Dumpster rental Aurora, IL — street vs driveway, Kane vs DuPage

This is a clerk sheet for the City of Aurora, Illinois. It is not Chicago CDOT. It is not Class A or Class B. It is not MCC 10-28-799. It will not get you three bids. It will tell you whether the box sits on private property or in the public right-of-way, what § 20-14 actually requires, why Kane versus DuPage is a tax-parcel checkbox and not a second dumpster permit, and who actually hauls here.

Aurora is its own city. It straddles Kane and DuPage (the dumpster application also has Kendall and Will boxes for the parcel). The county box is for the assessor, not a Kane dumpster ROW permit and not a DuPage dumpster ROW permit. None of those county dumpster permits are invented on this page because none were found.

Kane vs DuPage (and Kendall, and Will)

Aurora is one city. The corporate limits cross county lines. The dumpster application’s land/parcel block asks you to check one county — Kane, DuPage, Kendall, or Will — and to call the tax assessor with questions. That checkbox identifies the tax parcel. It is not a second dumpster permit, and it is not a county ROW dumpster program invented on this page.

Do not call Kane County or DuPage County for an Aurora street-dumpster permit. The public-way garbage-container permission is City of Aurora § 20-14. County health departments show up on other city lists (food, septic). They are not this permit.

Who the permit is on

§ 20-14(a): a person who seeks to locate a garbage container in the public right-of-way must obtain written permission from the superintendent of streets. That is not Chicago’s “provider / hauler only” rule. The Aurora form has signature lines for the dumpster contractor and the owner/tenant. The person who locates the box is on the hook if it is noncompliant — § 20-14(d) removes it immediately at that person’s expense.

The eTRAKiT FAQ (city PDF; “currently 29” online types) lists zoning-accessory Dumpster Screen and Temporary Storage POD. It does not list a public-way roll-off dumpster. Dumpster Screen is a screening/enclosure accessory. A POD is a POD. Do not apply for Dumpster Screen when you need a street roll-off. Confirm dumpster-ROW is in person / with Permits. The FAQ itself says types not listed online still go over the counter or by mail.

What you must give the city

§ 20-14(b), as reprinted on the dumpster application:

1. Per-day fee paid in advance to Building & Permits for each day the container will sit in the public way. Unused days refunded after department review. The dollar amount is the fee gap below — confirm before you budget.
2. Hold-harmless in which the user assumes full liability for accidents from locating the container in the ROW. The live city file is fillable and currently shows a sample contractor/address; use a blank copy from Permits, not that sample as your facts.
3. Surety bond $5,000 conditioning payment if the container or its use damages the public way and the city has to repair it.

That packet is heavier than “pay a small fee online.” A driveway drop skips it. A street drop does not.

Fee gap — do not pick one number as gospel

Published figures disagree. None of the following is treated as the one true 2026 Aurora dumpster-ROW charge on this page. Call Building & Permits at 630-256-3130 and ask what they bill today for a temporary dumpster in the public way, weekday versus weekend, plus any metered-space add-on, before you budget or let a hauler pad a number.

Metered space, if the box sits on a meter: Division of Motor Vehicles (630) 844-3625, $2.00 per space per day on the application (item g), payable in advance and before the permit issues. Call Motor Vehicles Maintenance (630) 801-5260 as well (item f) so they pick a placement that does not fight cars or pedestrians — that call is listed as required before issuance.

Friday 4:00 p.m. — this is not a Chicago 7-day street rental

§ 20-14(c)(1): all containers must be removed by 4:00 p.m. Friday and may not sit on the public right-of-way over the weekend, except for special events. (c)(2): if a weekend stay is required, an extra per-day fee in the amount specified is due.

A 7-day Chicago-style rental on an Aurora street is not automatic. The hauler’s 7-day clock and the city’s Friday clock are different machines. If you need the box Saturday and Sunday on the public way, that is a special ask plus the extra weekend day fee — not a default. Driveway drops skip this clock. That is the practical reason a lot of Aurora jobs stay on the pad.

Other § 20-14 rules (public way)

• Debris below the top rail. If it exceeds the top, empty within 48 hours. If debris escapes and the city cleans it, the person who received permission pays that bill. (c)(3).
• Name and phone of the scavenger permanently affixed, clearly visible on the outside. (c)(4). That is the hauler’s markings, not a handwritten Sharpie on delivery day if you can help it.
• Overnight on the ROW: reflectorized tape or paint on all corners, and barricades with working flashers at each end, visible to traffic. (c)(5).
• Noncompliant box: removed immediately at the expense of the person who located it. (d).
• Minimum 4 feet from hydrants (application item e). Not Chicago’s 20 feet. Do not mix the two cities.
• Before issuance: call Division of Motor Vehicles Maintenance (630) 801-5260 so they choose a placement that does not fight vehicles or pedestrians (item f).
• Metered space: Motor Vehicles (630) 844-3625, $2/space/day on the form, pay before the permit (item g), plus the (f) call.

Fox Metro Water Reclamation District is the sewer utility. The city’s demolition application tells you to coordinate water/sewer disconnect with Fox Metro. That is a demo utility rule. It is not a dumpster-ROW rule, and this page does not invent one.

Sizes: 10, 20, 30, 40 — no CDOT class

Cubic yards are volume. Aurora does not split 10/20/30 versus 40 into Chicago CDOT Class A and Class B. Pick the box for the debris, the driveway or alley length, and the truck’s approach. Deep sheet: 10 vs 20 vs 30 vs 40 yard: what actually fits.

Heavy → 10. Remodel → 20. That logic is the same as the size sheet. What changes in Aurora is the surface: more driveways than a Chicago bungalow block, alleys that still exist near the river and the older east side, and a Friday street clock if you leave private property. Ask about overhead wires, the approach, and whether the box will sit entirely on your pad.

Do not heap above the rail. § 20-14 already says empty within 48 hours if you do; the truck may also refuse the pull.

Rental prices — regional range, not an Aurora quote

BinClerk does not invent Aurora-only dumpster prices. Most local roll-off operators do not publish an Aurora rate card. The table below is the Chicagoland market band compiled 29 August 2026 for the Chicago page (independent hauler sites + one coordinator guide). It is labeled regional on purpose. It is not a bid for an Aurora ZIP.

One Aurora-page rate that was actually fetched 29 Aug 2026: DDT Dumpster Rentals (St. Charles; dedicated Aurora page) publishes a 15-yard from $399 and a 20-yard from $425, 2 tons included, up to 1 day included, extra day $25, extra weight $95/ton. Those are rubber-tire trailer dumpsters on their Aurora page, not a 7-day open-top roll-off. Do not mash that into the table above as if it were the same product.

E&J Disposal, Flood Brothers, Odyssey, Big Box Disposal, and WM did not publish an Aurora-specific dollar card on the pages fetched 29 Aug 2026. Ask every hauler for four numbers in writing: base rate, included tons, overage per ton, extra day. Then ask whether the drop is driveway or public way, and whether any city ROW fee is in the base or extra. A driveway drop should not include a § 20-14 packet you did not need.

Who hauls

Real companies, phones taken from their own sites, that advertise Aurora or sit close enough that their own pages name Aurora. This is not a directory of 50 and not a bidding widget. No Dumpsters.com. No affiliate links. Call them yourself. Ask about driveway versus street and who walks the § 20-14 packet if the box leaves the pad.

What to ask, in this order: Can you drop on this exact surface (driveway / alley / street)? If it is public way, who files § 20-14, who posts the $5,000 bond and the hold-harmless, and will the box be off the street by 4:00 p.m. Friday? Included tons? Overage? Days? Prohibited list for this transfer station? Concrete/dirt separate?
